The league was formed in 1954, possibly 1953, as one of many golf leagues by the
Link Activities Club. The other leagues formed at this time were; the Blackcat, the
Panther Cat, the Tiger Cat, and the Alley Cat. There is also the Wildcat league which
was formed at the same time but did not want to get LAC benefits. These leagues played
at State Park, Ely Park, and Geneganstlet. The leagues remaining are the Bearcat,
Blackcat, and Wildcat leagues.
